Ciarán uses a range of manual techniques and “hands-on” therapy to assist rehabilitation from musculoskeletal injuries, back and neck pain, postural problems, sprains/strains and sports injuries among other issues. Treatments are individually tailored and can include; myofascial trigger-point release, deep tissue massage, mobilisation of the spine and specific exercise prescription.

An Initial consultation will normally take approximately 45min and during this time a detailed history will be taken followed by a postural assessment, palpation of the injured area and orthopedic tests.

Follow up appointments usually last between 30-40 minutes depending on the injury.

APPI Pilates is a taught by Physiotherapists to teach Clinical Pilates from an injury rehab perspectihve. The APPI pilates method provides therapists with a clinical and user friendly tool for retraining correct activation of the core muscles. It consists of mat based exercises designed specifically for Therapists to teach to the clinical population.

The key elements of APPI Pilates include retraining.
Neutral lumbo-pelvic alignment and activation of the key lumbo-pelvic stabilising muscles.
Correct ribcage/thoracic alignment
Scapulo-thoracic stabilisation
Deep neck flexor retraining to stabilise the cervical spine.

The repertoire of APPI Pilates exercises also include exercise to improve spinal mobility, flexibility of the key trunk and lower limb muscles groups, body awareness and postural awareness.

Abdominal Separation

Separation of the abdominal muscles is a common condition after some pregnancies or many years of abdominal loading with poor technique, and is called Diastasis Recti Abdominis. This can lead to poor core function with abdominal doming and weakness.

Do you have a separation of your abdominal muscles?

How to check:

Lie on your back with your knees bent,

Place one hand behind your head and perform a sit up,

Palpate above and below umbilicus with your finger to feel for a separation.

*Please contact me and we can arrange a FREE abdominal separation check!

Dry Needling

Dry needling can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal injuries.  It is best used in combination with the specific rehabilitation programme as prescribed by your therapist.

Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue.

Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as lighter styles e.g Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense (depending on the patients tolerance). It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots.

Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage Inc:

Reduce chronic pain,

Help with limited mobility,

Aid recovery from injuries (e.g. repetitive strain injury, whiplash, falls, sports injury),

Postural problems ,

Reduce muscle tension ,

Sciatica ,
